Dr. Mockovak is accused of trying to hire the Russian mob to kill a co-worker.

Last month we brought you the story of laser eye surgeon Dr. Michael Mockovak, alleged murder-for-hire conspirator. The Clearly Lasik co-owner was accused of offering $25,000 to an informant (who he thought had ties to the Russian mob) in exchange for the murder of his business partner, Dr. Joseph King.

According to prosecutors, Mockovak wanted King murdered while on a family vacation in Australia. Telling the informant that an "ocean drowning" sounded like a "not bad" way to get rid of the man with whom he'd made his fortune.

Mockovak is currently in jail. But according to King's lawyers he's still making life hell for his former partner.

In a civil suit, King alleges that Mockovak is stealing from the business they both own in order to finance his own defense. In short, Mockovak is accused of allegedly trying to kill a man then taking his money.

It'll take a long time to determine how both the civil and criminal trials will play out. So in the meantime, please enjoy Mockovak's lawyer's argument for a lower bail using the "my client's eyes were bigger than his wallet" defense.

Writing the court in the criminal case, defense attorney Colette Tvedt argued that the $3 million bail amount requested by prosecutors was excessive given her client's lack of criminal history and ties to the community.

Despite prosecutors' claims to the contrary, Tvedt told the court Mockovak was not a wealthy man. His $1.7 million home is largely owned by the bank, the attorney said, and Clearly Lasik's revenues have been down in recent years.
