New Owners Rename Shakey’s, Revamp Franchise

Alhambra, Calif. - Shakey’s Pizza has been purchased for $4.5 million by its struggling Singapore-based parent Inno-Pacific Holdings, by multiunit franchisee The Jacmar Cos.

Fifty-year-old Shakey’s has 63 pizza parlors in its chain and has recently seen hard times with a franchisee-filed lawsuit against Inno-Pacific and Shakey’s over alleged breach of contract.

As reported in Nation’s Restaurant News, Jacmar sources said the lawsuit was resolved concurrently with the close of the acquisition, which saw virtually all of Shakey’s assets transferred to a group of new Jacmar companies that will be known collectively as Shakey’s USA.

“This is an exciting opportunity, to capitalize on the Shakey’s name and revitalize and expand the business and reclaim a loyal following across the U.S.,” Jacmar president James Dal Pozzo stated.
