Katz names new president

Katz Group Canada Ltd. is set to announce the hiring of its new president and chief operating officer, a former executive at Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd. and Kmart Corp.

Edmonton-based Katz plans today to officially welcome Andy Giancamilli.

Mr. Giancamilli's first challenge will be to supervise the restructuring of Snyders Drug Stores Inc., a subsidiary in the United States which filed for court protection from creditors in September.

Beyond the restructuring, Mr. Giancamilli will help push Katz's "continued growth and development," according to a memo published by the Edmonton Journal.

Katz is the largest operator of drugstores in Canada. It owns PharmaPlus Drug Marts and Pharmx/Rexall. It has annual sales of more than $6-billion from about 1,700 stores.

Mr. Giancamilli joined Canadian Tire in 2001. Before that he was president and COO at Kmart.
