Tim Hortons boosts Wendy's bottom line

Doughnut chain Tim Hortons continues to be a star performer for Wendy's International Inc. The big U.S. fast food company yesterday reported record profit of $194-million (U.S.), or $1.65 a share, for 2001, up 14.1 per cent from the year before. Sales grew 7.8 per cent to a record $8.3-billion, consisting of $6.8-billion for Wendy's and $1.5-billion for Tim Hortons. Same-store sales at Tim Hortons restaurants in Canada grew 7.8 per cent, on top of a 9.1-per-cent increase the year before. In the United States, same-store sales grew 7.7 per cent after a 12.7-per-cent rise the year before.
